Hello and welcome to Start Sewing Now!
Let me tell you a bit about myself and my passion for needlework. I started at a young age at my Grandmother’s knee, she was the most accomplished needlewoman I have ever known and the first thing she taught me was to darn my Father’s wool socks. By the time I attended South Craven Secondary School, I could knit, crochet and embroider as well as turn a seam by hand and machine. I had an amazing needlework teacher at Secondary School whose encouragement was my making, and with her support I made my first wedding gown the week I left school, swiftly followed by a coat with the help of an elderly uncle, himself a trained tailor. The sewing machine was always out during my teenage years and has never been far from me since.
After having my two children, now grown boys with children of their own, I attended evening classes and achieved my City and Guilds in dressmaking. For 4 years I ran my own bridal shop, where I offered a bespoke service and attended to all the alterations required for the “Off the Peg” gowns. Here I was awarded membership of The Guild of Master Craftsmen, a truly rewarding accolade which obviously I am very proud of.
I have attended various courses since then to expand my knowledge and experience, and a few years ago I graduated from Huddersfield University with a Certificate in Education and have lectured at Craven College, Skipton. I am CRB checked, and a member of The Institute for Learning. Having my own sewing school has been on my wish list for a few years, and now I can combine two passions, sewing and teaching. With a variety of courses to choose from, I’m sure you will be happy learning with us and I am personally committed to providing a quality service. I will do all I can to meet your expectations; have a look through the site, and if you have any comments or questions, please feel free to contact us.
Good luck and thank you!
